Plastic Surgery
Body Contouring
Overview
Feeling confident and positive about your body is important. At USF Health, our surgical team is skilled at reshaping your body to match your inner self. Achieving weight loss is no easy feat, and we want you to feel proud of the body you have earned.
Our specially trained plastic surgeons can restore your body and redefine troublesome areas that show signs of weight loss, such as the abdominal area, arms, and thighs. We bring back the contour of your body by tightening skin and removing excess fat, especially in the stubborn mid and lower abdomen.
Clinical Content
After weight loss, whether it be GLP1, bariatric surgery or diet and exercise, the soft tissue of the body changes. Patients often notice excess skin, redundant folds, and even rashes. These can make mobility, further weight loss or living your most authentic life difficult. Our team is dedicated to helping each patient achieve their body contouring goals with refined skills, empathy, and safety.

Why Choose Us?
At USF, our goal is to treat each patient through an academic perspective with the highest quality and safety. Each concern is approached in a patient-centered manner with the most modern techniques. We treat every patient for their individual goals; from body contouring patients after several hundred-pound weight loss to those who have a focused weight loss. Patients also may present for body contouring in anticipation for other medical/surgical conditions such as hernia or orthopedic/urologic concerns.
What to Expect
Who is a Candidate?
While each patient is addressed individually, there are some general guidelines for candidacy for body contouring. When patients have better overall health, the risk of surgical complications decreases. Because these procedures often involve large treatment areas and long incisions, it is important that patients are at a stable weight and have adequate nutrition to support proper wound healing.
Candidate Guidelines
BMI <35 and/or stable weight for 6 months after medical weight loss and one year after bariatric surgery
No current nicotine use and well controlled medical conditions (diabetes, hypertension, etc.)
Possible collaboration with bariatric program for further weight loss or nutrition to optimize wound healing
Consideration of staging surgeries if several areas of concern are identified
Insurance Considerations
Patients seeking insurance coverage may need documentation from their primary care provider or dermatologist demonstrating treatment for intertriginous (skin fold) rashes.
